About Light from a Stranger
Light from a Stranger (@lightfromastranger) are a Hip Hop/Rock duo from Sydney, Australia. They produce energetic and thought-provoking party music mixing the ‘get you singing along’ element of Rock with the gritty, thoughtful and eyecatching aesthetic of HipHop.
The duo consist of Sydney-born rapper and producer, MC Connect and Canadian-native vocalist and beat boxer Jyder. The dynamic duo co-write and produce their music out of Parramatta in Sydney’s West. Connect, also a solo HipHop artist, released his debut EP, The Blue Pause in 2017 and most recently released his debut single, Passion for the Passion in December 2020. Jyder, a competitive beatboxer, has a street performance background known for delighting Sydney-siders with Harp / Beatboxing busking duo Harpbeat.
Light from a Stranger formed in 2018 and released their debut EP, Grey Area in 2019. Their debut music video, Not About Me, a one-shot masterpiece shot hundreds of meters above the Parramatta CBD paved the way for Light from a Stranger to play a slew of gigs in and around Sydney. In early 2020, on a high after the success of 2019, Light from a Stranger recruited a full band and rehearsed for their biggest shows yet before the Coronavirus pandemic forced Australia into lockdown, cancelling their entire tour schedule. Devastating!
Determined to make a come-back Light from a Stranger are back on the stage in 2021 stunning audiences with their brand of high-energy, in-your-face RockHop…or HipRock…or whatever it is that you want to call it. Any way you describe it Light from a Stranger is a force to be reckoned with. With their unique mix of new and classic, rap, rock, Australian and North American influences, Light from a Stranger certainly have the X factor and are an act to watch out for on the Australian music scene and beyond.
